Re: Free Benefit Concert #############################
American Idol season six finalist and Lyric Street recording artist, Phil Stacey, will perform a free admission concert at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Raley Chapel on Sunday, July 6th , at 6:00 p.m. to benefit two local non-profit organizations that work to alleviate homelessness—Family Promise of Shawnee and Shawnee Rescue Mission.
Stacey is married to Kendra McIntosh, daughter of the Evangelistic Center Church’s senior pastor, Mark McIntosh, and his wife, Tami. Throughout his stint on American Idol, Stacey’s Shawnee fans continually voted to move him up and ensure his place into the finals. Stacey said he wants to thank the people of Shawnee and Oklahoma by offering this free benefit concert.
Born a pastor’s son in Harlan County, KY, on January 21, 1978, Stacey has lived throughout the Midwest. He excelled in music at Lee University in Cleveland, TN, where he served as a Student Director for the elite music group, The Lee Singers.
In 2003, Stacey enlisted in the United States Navy and has served with honor receiving awards for excellence in service and good conduct. At the present time he is serving in the Navy Reserves while on tour for his new CD.
Stacey is now making a name for himself beyond AI into the country genre where he seems to have found his musical niche. He released his self-named debut country album, Phil Stacey, with Lyric Street Records in April 2008 to rave reviews and has a rising hit with the first single, ‘If You Didn't Love Me.’ A lilting ballad, Stacey said that the song is an ode to his wife.
“She's [Kendra] just been amazing, encouraging and supportive. She takes care of two babies by herself a lot. So I'm glad I got to record something that I wanted to say to my wife,” said Stacey in a recent interview with The Boot journalist, Beville Darden. Stacey and Kendra, married for nine years, have two daughters, Chloe—four, and McKayla—one.
Stacey’s July 6th performance at Raley Chapel will include a love offering for the benefit of Family Promise of Shawnee and Shawnee Rescue Mission.
The Shawnee affiliate of Family Promise is in its fourth year of offering a safe and healthy environment to homeless families with children. This successful national program helps their guests get back into affordable housing and regain self-sufficiency through the cooperative efforts of local businesses, individuals, and especially church volunteers. For more information, call 273-0161.
Shawnee Rescue Mission offers assistance with food, clothing, temporary shelter, utilities, transportation for job interviews, and ongoing counseling for alcohol and drug addiction, and anger and grief management. When their new facility is built, the organization will provide a day shelter for homeless people, church service, and Christian evangelism courses with the eventuality of setting up an overnight facility. For more information, call 831-6904.
