3/28/2008 CITY-WIDE PERMIT FREE GARAGE SALE WEEKEND
Reduce your “waste size!” Every time an item is reused is one less thing headed for the landfill. Now is the time to haul out that old couch that’s been sitting in the garage for ages, and to get rid of those old toys and clothes the kids have outgrown. Turn those old sweaters, DVD’s, and college textbooks into cold, hard cash.
City Wide Garage Sale Weekend will be April 11, 12 and 13, 2008!
There is no need to throw away used items that are in good or repairable condition just because you have no further use for them. And they don’t have to contribute to your clutter either. When cleaning out a closet or garage, redecorating or moving, give your unwanted items a second life.
Shawnee-Wide Garage Sale Weekend is a grassroots public awareness campaign to promote reuse, repair, and resell opportunities in The City of Shawnee. Sustainable Shawnee encourages everyone to either hold a sale or go garage sale shopping. Residents interested in holding a garage sale should purchase ads and a sign following the following sign rules:
(a) One advertising sign per sale. Not more than one sign or other device used for the purpose of advertising or otherwise calling attention to a residential sale shall be allowed for each residential sale licensed under this article.(b) Signs must be removed within 24 hours of the completion of the residential sale. Signs may not be placed closer than 13 feet of the curb line. Signs may not be placed in the right-of-way, on any utility poles or street signs or on any private property without the permission of the property owner. (Code 1986, § 14-170)
So do your part for the environment and have a fun weekend by participating in the City-Wide Garage Sale! Remember to donate or recycle as many leftover items as you can before throwing them away! Also remember to file your Oklahoma State Sales Tax. The form is located at: http://www.tax.ok.gov/btforms.html
If you are interested in other ways to reduce, re-use and recycle check out the Sustainable Shawnee web site at www.sustainableshawnee.org
