JOB SUMMARY: This is a nonexempt position that requires manual and semi-skilled work. The incumbent employee drives a service truck to haul tools and equipment for water line maintenance, works under supervision of Water Distribution Supervisor, and performs a variety of manual labor and semi-skilled tasks in assigned areas. “Job description may be modified based on City needs and employees may be required to perform functions beyond those described below and employees are “at will employees” in that either party may terminate the employment relationship.”

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
•Keeps water and wastewater system operating efficiently. Assists in repair of water and sewer line breaks. Installs, lays, connects, tests, and disinfects water and sewer lines.
•Maintains, locates, raises to grade, and marks water main valves.
•Relieves sewer line stoppages by operating hydro-flusher to clear pipe of congesting materials.
•Cleans and repairs manholes to maintain city and ODEQ standards. Inspects system.
•Inspects taps made by contractor to maintain quality control of tapping process.
•Locates and raises valve boxes. Assists in broken valve replacement. Assists in valve and water line mapping. Flushes water mains.
•Repairs and replaces fire hydrants, notifying fire department when fire hydrant is out of service.
•Locates water and sewer lines.
•Operates jackhammer. Operates emergency call truck.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
•Excavates trenches and installs shoring.
•Troubleshoots minor mechanical equipment problems.
•Troubleshoots and locates causes of water quality complaints.
•Detects hazardous atmospheres and makes corrections before entry.
•Detects and reports or corrects unsafe working conditions.
•Reports to Water Distribution supervisor and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Must obtain ODEQ Class D Water and wastewater operator certification within one year of employment.
•Must possess valid Oklahoma driver’s license and maintain driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
•Must obtain valid Oklahoma Class B Commercial driver’s license within six months of employment.
•Knowledge of water and sewer line construction and maintenance.
•Knowledge of water and wastewater operations. Knowledge of tools, equipment and their use.
•Ability to follow instructions and work with others.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•High school education or equivalent.
•Prior water and wastewater construction experience.
•General maintenance experience.

SUPERVISION REQUIRED: Works under general supervision of Water Distribution Supervisor.
SUPERVISION GIVEN: Supervises subordinate maintenance workers.




WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL HAZARDS:

•Must be willing to periodically perform stand-by and call-back work during off duty hours.
•Most of work is performed outdoors subject to inclement weather conditions. Occasionally work is performed in confined areas and awkward positions or on rough, uneven terrain or excavations.
•Possible exposure to vibration, noise, smells, dust, dirt, water and/or hazardous chemicals.
•Must possess physical flexibility to bend, twist and reach; mobility to climb and walk; dexterity to operate machinery and tools on uneven surfaces; and stamina to exert self throughout the day in all weather conditions.
•Must have strength to pull, lift, and/or push objects up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an infrequent basis.
•Must have knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
•Possible exposure to moving equipment, slippery surfaces, chemicals, and/or hazardous materials.

SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
•Class D Water and Wastewater License.
•Confined Space Entry Certification.
•Oklahoma Class B Commercial driver’s license within one year of employment.
