John G. Canavan, Jr. John Canavan was admitted to the Oklahoma bar in 1979. He received his B.A. with honors in political science in 1976 and his Juris Doctorate in 1979 from the University of Oklahoma. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit and the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. John is vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bison Federal Credit Union, a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Gregory's College and a member of the boards of directors of Kiwanis Club of Shawnee, and Pottawatomie County American Heart Association. He served as Chairman of the 1997 and 1998 American Heart Association Walk-for-Heart. He is an Honorary Captain of the Shawnee Police Department and a sponsor of the Shawnee Speed Girl's Softball Team. He is a member of the Oklahoma Municipal League, the Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma and American Bar Associations, the Oklahoma District Attorney's Association and National District Attorney's Association. He is also a member of the Education Improvement Committee of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce. Prior to joining Charles T. Henry, Inc. in 1991, John served as First Assistant District Attorney for Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties. He is engaged in the general practice of law with an emphasis on litigation in state and federal court. He serves as the City Attorney for the City of Shawnee and Legal Advisor to the Shawnee Police Department. John also serves as a part-time Assistant District Attorney for Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties. The City Attorney's Office represents the City of Shawnee in all activities involving court and legal actions |
