Welcome to the Shawnee Police Department!
Greetings and welcome to the Shawnee Police Department website! I am Chief William H. Mathis and I’m extremely
proud to lead the highly dedicated men and women of the Shawnee Police Department. On a daily basis,
department personal work very hard to make the Shawnee community a safe and productive environment for

The Shawnee Police Department is divided into three major areas of operations; 1) Patrol Division, 2) Special Assignments Division, and 3) Support Services Division. The heads of these three major operational areas make up the Shawnee Police Department Management Team. |

Patrol Division The Patrol Division is comprised of three Lieutenants that oversee their shifts, day shift, evening shift, and midnight shift. Patrol Division has uniformed patrol officers that are the first responders to 911 calls, life-threatening incidents, traffic accidents, domestic violence, burglary, and many other calls for service. As of November 30, 2006, this year Shawnee Police Department Patrol Division has received over 14,000 calls for service. Being the most visible members of the police department, this division makes up about 50% of the department’s manpower. Patrol works diligently on its partnerships with the community by identifying and solving problems related to crime and improvement of quality of life for all of Shawnee. Along with the day to day functions for the police department, Patrol Division also encompasses special teams, such as Gangs Unit, sex offender unit, canine unit, bicycle team, and more. |

Special Assignments Division The Special Assignments Division is comprised of the Criminal Investigation Section, School & Community Officers, Training Section and Warrants. Criminal Investigation houses 4 detectives that investigate all cases turned in to CID, maintains CrimeStoppers, internal investigations, AFIS and polygraph services. School officers are placed at Shawnee High School, Middle School, and Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech, as well as one Housing Officer for the city. Support Services Division Support Services division is comprised of all civilian employees, Records Section, Animal Control, Communications Section and Grants.
