RResidents can now get rid of furniture and old appliances at the curbside. Central Disposal will pick up Bulky Waste once a month, on the same day as your residential trash and yard waste pick up (SEE SCHEDULE ABOVE). Just place your Bulky Waste at your curb before the day of your pick up. You can dispose of old appliances, couches, and other large items.

SSome restrictions apply:

  • No Items Weighing More Than 60 Ibs. All Refrigerators and Deep Freezers Must Have the Freon Drained, the Compressor Removed, and Must Be Tagged by a Professional.
  • No Hazardous Items such as: Tires, Used Batteries, Etc.
  • No Hazardous liquid Waste such as: Biomedical Waste, Infectious Waste, Used Batteries, Oil, Materials contaminated with Hazardous Waste, Radioactive Waste, PCVS, Drums, Friable Asbestos, Solvents, Etc.
  • No Construction/Demolition Materials such as: Shingles, Metal, Sheetrock, Lumber, Windows, Concrete, Bricks, Rocks, Etc.
  • Must have All Animal Waste Bagged and Tied.

Lawn clippings and tree trimmings are picked up the same day your regular polycart waste is picked up.

Some restrictions apply:

  • Place your lawn clippings and leaves in trash bags and place them at least 4 feet from your polycart near the curb.
  • Tree, shrub and brush trimmings should be placed near your curb and away from your polycart as well.
  • No Items Weighing More Than 60 Ibs.
  • All Tree limbs Must Be No Longer than 3 ft. in Length and Must Be Bundled.
  • No Firewood. Leaves Must Be Bagged and Tied.
  • Must have All Animal Waste Bagged and Tied.

The Shawnee Municipal Authority and Central Disposal promote the recycling of all types of paper, plastics, aluminum beverage cans, glass, and steel food cans. The community recycling drop off locations are located on the south side of the parking lot of the Homeland grocery store at 600 W Independence St (Kickapoo and Independence). The second location is at Central Disposal located at 700 E. 45th Street. 

All Plastics should have any food residue washed out of them. Containers are clearly marked for each recyclable item. You can empty your sacks/bags of recyclable materials into the containers.

Shawnee residents can safely dispose of paint, pesticides, motor oil and other household products that can harm the environment. For a fee, residents can dispose of their household hazardous waste at the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Center at 1621 S Portland in Oklahoma City. Click here for more information.

The Central Disposal Transfer Station is now open for customers. The transfer station is located at 700 E. 45th Street in Shawnee. Shawnee residents who pay a City of Shawnee Garbage bill may dispose of 3 cubic yards (1 level pickup bed) per month at no charge. (Bring your residential Water bill and matching ID.) Shawnee residents who pay a City of Shawnee Garbage bill have access to the Center Point landfill located near Prague. Shawnee residents who pay a City of Shawnee Garbage bill may dispose of 3 cubic yards (1 level pickup bed) per month at no charge. Bring your residential Water bill and matching ID.
