1.  WHO?

2. WHAT MATERIALS WILL BE RECYCLED?

Aluminum Beverage Cans

  • Leave the tabs on
  • Rinse the cans with water
  • No pie tins, aluminum foil, or siding

Plastic Water, Soda & Milk Bottles

  • Labels are OK
  • Remove caps or plastic rings from necks
  • All food residue must be rinsed from plastic or it is not recyclable

Newsprint

  • Newspaper, Circulars, & Inserts
  • Bag or bundle but it's not necessary
  • Dry newspaper only
  • NO MAGAZINES!

3.  WHEN?

7 Days a Week
Monday thru Friday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Saturday 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Sunday 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

4.  WHERE?  -   Drop Off Centers

  • Homeland Store - West of Independence & Kickapoo

5.  WHY?    -   Several Reasons

  • Because Shawnee citizens wanted to recycle
  • It's energy efficient
  • To ease landfill volume
  • It's the right thing to do!

6.  HOW?   -   It's Easy!

  • You can separate materials in paper bags or trash cans at home
  • Keep containers in a convenient place for you (near the trash, in the utility room, on the back porch...)
  • Drop off while shopping or running errands
  • Start a compost pile with you other waste materials and yard trimmings to use as fertilizer for your yard or garden
  • It only takes 21 days of repeating an action to develop a new habit...Make a difference

7.  REMEMBER

  • Place all material to be recycled INSIDE the green containers provided for recycling.
