Comprehensive Plan 2040
On February 20th, 2018 the City entered into a contract with RDG Planning and Design for an update to the City's 2005 Comprehensive Plan. The update process will take approximately 13-14 months with an anticipated adoption by summer of 2019.
In summary, a comprehensive plan is the City's official statement for future development and conservation. It sets forth goals; analyzes existing conditions and trends; describes and illustrates a vision for the physical, social, and economic characteristics of the community; and outlines policies and guidelines intended to implement that vision with a horizon year of 2040. As it has been 13 years since the last Plan adoption, an update is necessary to prepare and respond to new issues and emerging market conditions.
Citizen involvement is the cornerstone of the Shawnee Comprehensive Plan. As such, a successful plan is identified not just with the elected and appointed officials of the City, but with the entire community and its residents. Throughout the update process there will be a number of opportunities for citizen engagement, including a dedicated Plan web site, online survey(s), community workshops, focus group interviews, and a series of public hearings.
Please be sure to check back in for regular updates and opportunities for public input.
A project website has been created and can be accessed here. Please also consider completing the community survey.
