About the Communications Section
Online CAD Data
Computer Aided Dispatch Screen Shot The Communication Specialist utilize the Computer Aided Dispatch system to received, dispatch, and manage thousands or call per month.
The CAD system receives the 9-1-1, land line and cell calls and displays the Enhanced data on the screen for the Communications Specialist to work from. Dispatching can be done via radio, direct push to the mobile computer or phone as needed.

Communication Specialist commonly known as dispatchers handle on average 6,000 plus calls a month. These are calls given to Police, Fire, and Ambulance in the Shawnee community. This nmuber of 6,000 does not include the incoming calls taken by our dispatchers

Shawnee Dispatchers also dispatch our local React ambulance throughout Pottawatomie county and partly into Lincoln county.

The Shawnee Communication Center has 12 full time dispatchers. There are four assigned to each of the three shifts allowing for various 2 day weekends. Some dispatchers have Friday and Saturday off while others may have Tuesday and Wednesday off. This is all due to the fact that this is a public safety operation and must be maned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Dispatching is a proud profession and the Shawnee Police Department Dispatchers take their job very seriously.
Certain data is available for public viewing including the last ten (10) dispatch calls and recent accident maps based on CAD data. This information is dynamically pulled from the CAD system for displaying.
