Chief Bill Mathis was sworn in as Shawnee Police Chief on October 2nd, 2006. He was born and raised in Garden City, Michigan. After graduating from Garden City East High School he served in the US Army and later in the US Naval Reserve. He joined the Lawton Oklahoma Police Department in 1979.

During Chief Mathis’ twenty-seven year of service with the Lawton Oklahoma Police Department, he worked as a Patrol Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Crime Stoppers Investigator, Detective, Service Division Shift Supervisor, Patrol Supervisor, Lake Patrol Supervisor, Training Division Commander, Watch Commander, Criminal Investigation Division Commander and the Uniform Division Commander.

Chief Mathis graduated from Cameron University with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s Degree in General Education. He also graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
