Comprehensive Plan 2040
On October 21st, 2019 City Commission adopted the new 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
The comprehensive plan is the City's official guiding document for future growth and development. It sets forth goals; analyzes existing conditions and trends; describes and illustrates a vision for the community's physical, social, and economic characteristics, and outlines policies and guidelines intended to implement that vision with a horizon year of 2040.
Citizen involvement was the cornerstone of the Shawnee Comprehensive Plan. As such, a successful plan is identified not just with the elected and appointed officials of the City but with the entire community and its residents. Throughout the process, there were a number of opportunities for citizen engagement, including a dedicated plan website, online survey(s), community workshops, focus group interviews, and a series of public hearings.
Shawnee is leveraging planning processes to identify interface points between the comprehensive plan and other existing or ongoing planning efforts like mobility plans and parks and recreation master plans. In these cases, the role of the comprehensive plan is to integrate those individual efforts into a cohesive, interconnected framework of policies and actions.
