Board Vacancies Notice

The City of Shawnee has vacancies on the following advisory boards.   The positions are voluntary and there is no compensation.  Each board member is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Commission.  A Board member may serve up to two full consecutive three-year terms.  If you are interested, please complete a board application and forward it to the City Clerk’s office.  The board application can be found at:

Senior Citizens of Shawnee Board
1 vacant seat

The Board helps foster and develop programs for the benefit of older persons in our community, for the purposes of socialization, entertainment, health and fitness, mobilization, and senior information. The Board also advises and assists the City of Shawnee Recreation Department on senior specific programming and events. The requirements to be a board member are as follows: member shall be 55 years of age or older; resident of the City of Shawnee or Pottawatomie County, business or property owner within the City of Shawnee, or employed within the City of Shawnee.  The Board meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 9:30am in the Senior Recreation Center.

Shawnee Urban Renewal Authority (SURA)
1 vacant seat (effective 2/2/2022)

The City of Shawnee is an active participant in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), as an Entitlement Community, which is funded directly through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The CDBG is part of the Annual Consolidated Plan process for Housing and Community Development. SURA is responsible for assisting the Mayor and Board of Commissioners with recommendations regarding the allocation of CDBG funds awarded to projects, programs, and services that improve the lives of the City of Shawnee’s low and moderate income residents, by following the Citizen Participation Plan approved and adopted by the City of Shawnee. A member must be a resident of the City of Shawnee to be appointed to the board.

SURA meets on the first Tuesday quarterly (February, May, August and November) at 9:00 a.m. at the CDBG office.
