City of Shawnee Announces New Assistant City Manager

Shawnee, Oklahoma, July 1, 2024 – The City of Shawnee is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Simpson as the new Assistant City Manager. He knows the Shawnee community well, as he has been with the City since 2010 where he most recently served as Battalion Chief in the Shawnee Fire Department. 

Before coming to Shawnee, Simpson worked in the private sector focusing on water cleaning infrastructure, associated products and services, and equipment sales. He comes to the Assistant City Manager position holding a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. His multi-faceted education, leadership experience, business acumen, and welcoming personality will be a great asset to the Shawnee City team and this community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mark to our team,” said Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer, City Manager. “His extensive experience and dedication to public service will be invaluable, as we continue to enhance the quality of life for our residents and ensure the effective and efficient operation of our city!”

As Assistant City Manager, Simpson will work closely with the City Manager and other department heads to implement the City’s strategic initiatives, manage daily operations, and drive continuous improvement across all city services.
