Emergency Warming Station Opening December 22nd Volunteers Needed

Shawnee, Oklahoma, December 20, 2022 – Shawnee’s Emergency Warming Station is set to open Thursday, December 22, 11:00 am through Sunday, December 25 at 9:00 am.

The City of Shawnee has partnered again this year with C3 Church, 329 N. Pesotum, and over 30 organizations to provide an Emergency Warming Station to keep the homeless population warm and prevent cold-weather injury or death.

Volunteers are needed to make the warming station operational. Volunteers help check people in, serve coffee and snacks, organize and distribute winter clothes, schedule showers, and provide companionship to anyone who needs to take shelter from the cold.

Several shifts are available for volunteers: 5 per 4-hour shift during the day and 2 volunteers for an 8-hour overnight shift. Shifts are 7-11am, 11am-3pm, 3-7pm, 7-11pm, and 11pm-7am. To volunteer for a shift, contact (405) 481-9533.

Clothing and bedding are also needed. The Warming Station needs blankets and sleeping bags, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, coats, and new underwear.
