JOB TITLE: Parks Maintenance Worker I
FLSA: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Operations
PAY RANGE: Grade 6/$11.56 per hour
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Parks Supervisor
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general direction performs manual and semi-skilled work of the Parks Maintenance Division. Work varies, requiring independent judgment in the oversight and coordination of the Division activities within established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Physical demands include bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, reaching, walking on rough or uneven terrain, kneeling, and pulling or lifting up to 80#s (greater with assistance).
- Work is often performed in uncontrollable working conditions of inclement weather of heat, cold, dampness, dust, moderate noise levels, and hazardous chemicals;
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
- Mows, weeds, trims, and picks up debris aroundstreets, parks, city facilities, and right-of-ways, plants, waters, fertilizes, and applies herbicides and pesticides per direction, trims shrubs, and trees, cleans restrooms, installs and repairs fences, guardrails, and walkways;paints and repairs park benches and other park equipment.
- Troubleshoots minor electrical mechanical equipment problems;
- Detects hazardous atmosphere and corrects problems before entry into confined space;
- Detects and reports and/or corrects unsafe working conditions of immediate work sites to the supervisor;
- Prepares daily logs and reports;
- Work is mostly performed outdoors subject to inclement weather conditions of heat, cold, and dampness and may be exposed to hazards and chemicals;
- Contacts with other agencies, departments, the public, and employees is incidental to work requiring common courtesy and respect;
SUPERVISION – RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: May serve as a lead worker as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from high school, or its equivalent, PLUS
- One year general work experience; experience with parks maintenance desirable;
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and maintain a status of insurability.
EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE CRITERIA AND EXPECTATIONS:
- May periodically perform stand-by and call-back work during off duty hours;
- Working hours could change seasonally to accommodate task/duty;
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of parks and facilities management including construction, repair, and maintenance methods to enhance the facilities;
- Isresponsibleforequipment and facilities of value that requires care to prevent damage and the use of proper safety equipment following established safety procedures to prevent injury;
- Must possess knowledge of safe work practices and procedures;
