Elected officials play a vital role as policy makers in Shawnee’s council-manager form of government. As policy makers, the Mayor and City Commissioners are responsible for enacting laws, ordinances, and budgets that govern our municipality. The day-to-day operations of our City are then managed by a professional city manager, who is responsible for executing the policies set by the City Commission.

The City of Shawnee encourages all eligible candidates to apply for the vacant Ward 3 City Commissioner position. The current vacancy presents an opportunity for dedicated residents to actively participate in the governance and decision-making processes that shape our City’s future.

All applications will be considered during the City Commission meeting on November 20, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.  Each member of the City Commission will receive a copy of each application. Each applicant will be given the opportunity to address the City Commission and may be interviewed at a City Commission meeting on or before Monday, November 20, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.  The City Commission will consider the appointment of a person to fill the vacancy during the City Commission meeting on Monday, November 20, 2023, or have the option to defer appointment to a subsequent meeting.

Let's work together to invest in the future of our vibrant community. Join us in making Shawnee a better place for all!
